HOLY MATRIMONY

Marriage calls us to offer the best of ourselves to our beloved, and together to create a shared future that can be a source of blessing to others around us. For Christians, marriage is a lifelong sacramental relationship between two people who are seeking God's wisdom and grace to create that shared future.

We are delighted that you are considering getting married at Christ Church Cathedral.

The Cathedral provides a beautiful setting for this very important occasion in your life. More importantly than that, a Cathedral wedding speaks to the pervasive presence of God in every aspect of our lives.

Your marriage service is both a civil event and a religious ceremony.

Under Australian law, there are various requirements that need to be met and these are the same no matter where your marriage is celebrated.

Under Church law, there are also some requirements that need to be met. These include at least one person from the couple having been baptised. Where either of the people have been married previously and divorced, we need to request permission from the Bishop for the wedding to happen at the Cathedral.

Under current Australian law, we are not permitted to solemnise marriages for same-sex couples at the Cathedral.

Typically weddings are booked about a year ahead, due to the need to coordinate all the arrangements for the day. During that period, we can prepare for the wedding itself and for the shared future that will follow afterwards. We can arrange for Baptism and Confirmation, as well as deepening your personal spiritual practice as individuals and as a couple.

As part of those preparations, we invite you to join us regularly for worship. You are most welcome at our Sunday service at  9.00am.

Please contact the Cathedral Parish office on (02) 6642 2844 for further information or to begin the process of preparing for your wedding at the Cathedral.
